Slingerland

Heather Slingerland is an editorial and fine art photographer based in Austin, Texas, available for projects worldwide.

With over a decade behind the lens, her work centers on storytelling through themes of womanhood, identity, and personal history. She blends a documentary approach with a distinct visual sensitivity — capturing emotion through light, intimacy, and atmosphere.

Heather’s work has been recognized by the Kala Art Institute as an artist-in-residence (2024), and she received a Coronavirus Storytelling Grant from Oklahoma Watch and the Inasmuch Foundation for her series on Cherokee women during the pandemic. In 2022, she published her first photo book, Love Sex COVID, chronicling her dating life during lockdown. Past projects include portraits of 50 mothers in their New York homes and an ongoing exploration of women’s relationships with their hair.
